GHALCA G8 tournament: Aduana, Dwarfs, Hearts, Kotoko

Premier League champions, Aduana Stars, Ebusua Dwarfs, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko all made winning starts to their GHALCA-organised G8 campaigns at the weekend. Aduana laboured to beat newly-promoted side Dreams FC 1-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium last Saturday, Hearts also recorded a similar win over newly-promoted Karela FC in Cape Coast on the same day.

Yesterday, Kotoko pipped promoted Techiman Eleven Wonders by a lone goal at the Baba Yara Stadium, but it was a feast of goals as the match between Medeama and Dwarfs produced 11 goals, with the Cape Coast lads running away with a 6-5 win.

Aduana rode to victory on Fatawu Abdul’s 38th minute goal as he headed home from a cross.

Until then, both sides were uninspiring firing wide on a few occasion that they came close to scoring with Sam Adams, who had a good day, failing to utililse a golden opportunity in the 14th minute when he had only goalkeeper Ishawu Yahaya to beat.

It was Isaac Mensah’s 28th minute strike that separated Hearts and Karela FC at the Cape Coast Stadium in a game dominated by the Phobians.

In Kumasi yesterday, Eleven Wonders were punished by Kotoko for being wasteful in front of goal, with Obed Owusu’s strike from a spot kick in the 37th minute handing the Porcupine Warriors victory to put them joint top of their group with Aduana Stars on three points each

However, it was Cape Coast that produced the thriller of the weekend as Medeama and Dwarfs shared 11 goals. Kwame Boateng, Agyenim Boateng and Joseph Tettey Zutah each scored a brace for Medeama, while Isaac Donkor, Albert Hammond, Stephen Bentil, Joseph Esso and Joseph Dabtora hit the back of the net for Dwarfs.

The entertaining game saw Medeama fighting from behind to draw 3-3 before both teams went on recess. After the recess, Medeama began to attack and scored two quick goals through Agyenim and Boateng before Zutah added one more to cushion their lead.

But just when Medeama thought they were cruising to victory, Dwarfs bounced back strongly with Esso and Dabtora scoring to hand them victory.
