Sanford Women's FA Cup set for explosive semi-finals

It was anticipated to be an interesting competition when the maiden edition of the Sanford Women's FA Cup was launched and it has indeed lived up to expectation as the semi-finals this weekend have some mouth-watering clashes on the table.

At the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi tomorrow, Fabulous Ladies and Ampem Darkoa clash for one of the two final tickets, while Police Ladies and Immigration Ladies also battle it out for the other ticket at the Carl Reindorf Park at Dansoman in Accra on Sunday.

All the teams have stated their intentions of being in Cape Coast on September 24 for the final, and given that only two teams will have that opportunity, there is no doubt that the challenge will be much more than what was witnessed in the National Women's League this season.

With a steadily developing rivalry between the clubs involved in the two matches, a keen competition is expected for the privilege of being the first team to lift the Sanford Women's FA Cup.

Fabulous Ladies are seething with revenge against Ampem Darkoa, who have for the past two seasons dethroned them from being the champions in the northern zone in the league.

"Last year Ampem Darkoa robbed us of the chance to play in the final. This year, they seem to be on their way to the final again, so we will want to beat them for the FA Cup title," Nana Sekyere, the coach of Fabulous Ladies told The Mirror.

Both sides have had some high-scoring results this season, but they took turns to win their respective home matches during the league, with Fabulous winning 4-0 in Kumasi and Ampem Darkoa winning 2-1 at Techiman.

The fight is also not just a fight between Fabulous and Ampem Darkoa, but also a fight between their top strikers who are in contention for the top scorer.

Princella Adubea and Agnes Aduako are the top scorers in this FA Cup competition and would want to beat each other for the scorer award.

The match at Dansoman is equally dicey, as the two security agency teams carry their SESSA rivalry into the FA Cup.

On paper, Police Ladies look the favourites, but the fact that Immigration Ladies edged out giants, Hasaacas Ladies from this competition, they have a spring in their step to again cause an upset.
