According to Mr Mensah the Premier League can only regain its former excitement when Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are in good form and challenging for the title.

Hearts will renew their rivalry with Kotoko on Sunday when they welcome their arch rivals to the Accra Sports Stadium in a battle for supremacy.

The Porcupine Warriors were victors in their last outing at the venue after Hearts goalie, Abdul Soulama's howler led to the visitors triumphing  1-0

Kotoko possess a slight. advantage over the Phobians with their current form as they lie joint top with Aduana Stars, while Hearts have not been consistent in their performances so far this term.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, on the sidelines of the GOC congress last Wednesday, Mr Mensah said, "I want Hearts and Kotoko to light up the league with a good performance on Sunday so as to revive the top flight.

"This is the only way to bring back the excitement that existed in the past when league matches took place across the country," he added.

Meanwhile, a board member of Hearts, Frank Nelson Nwokolo, had expressed optimism about his side's chances against Kotoko, saying yesterday that  he was hopeful of a win come Sunday.

He debunked assertions that their rivals possessed advantage in Accra when over the two sides clash and assured the club's teeming fans of a victory on Sunday.
