While Okwawu United are hoping to join Nania FC as the only second tier sides to have won the competition since its reintroduction in 2011, Bechem will hope to be the first club from the Brong Ahafo Region to lay hands on the coveted trophy.

This high expectation was reinforced by Bechem goal poacher, Abednego Tetteh, when he told The Mirror that he was determined to ensure he personally denied his former club any chance of laying hands on the trophy for the second time in three decades, as the Brong Ahafo side seek to rewrite the books.

Similarly, coach of the Soccer Mountaineers, Ibrahim Merigah, minced no words when he sent a warning signal to their opponents side to brace themselves up for a shocking defeat, as they are prepared to do everything within their means to win the trophy. And for Merigah, who was part of the Okwawu side who won the trophy in 1986, there is an added motivation to make history as FA Cup winner both as a player and as a coach.

And the quest for a piece of football history would be largely influenced from the technical bench where Manuel Zacharias and Merigah will direct affairs for Bechem and Okwawu respectively.

Both teams have been highly motivated ahead of the game with Bechem United players expected to benefit from a promised holiday trip to Europe in addition to a winning bonus of GH¢5,000 each, while Okwawu lads are looking to line their pockets with more than the GH¢2,000 each player received for their semi-final win over Liberty Professionals in Kumasi.

On Sunday, Zacharias will be looking to his ‘goal machine’ Tetteh, who has scored three goals in the competition and 12 in the Premier League, to bring his scoring form to bear on their quest for the MTN FA Cup success.

While Okwawu may not boast of a big name star, the hunger for success could be a bigger motivation to cause an upset just as Nania FC did in 2011 when they stunned Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the final in Accra.
