Stars set to walk over Amavubi

The Black Stars are hoping to count on the cordial atmosphere in camp to tear apart the Amavubi of Rwanda in their last 2017 AFCON qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium today.

Coach Avram Grant will miss the services of skipper Asamoah Gyan and his deputy, Andre Ayew, due to fatigue and injury respectively. It is also unclear if the England-based duo of Christian Atsu and Jordan Ayew, who arrived late, would be in the coach’s starting line-up.

In their absence, Coach Grant can still count on other talents such as Mubarak Wakaso, Emmanuel Agyemang—Badu, David Accam, among others, to help the Stars complete the qualifiers in grand style.

This game is a mere academic exercise for the Stars who have already qualified for the competition to be hosted by Gabon early next year. But Ghana has a huge reputation to guard against the Amavubi who have beaten the Stars once in their last three outings.

Rwanda might not be a football powerhouse on the continent but Ghana’s Israeli trainer is not leaving anything to chance, hence his decision to assemble some of the best players, locally and abroad, to ensure a convincing victory.

That winning mentality was reinforced by Agyemang—Badu when he stated that the Amavubi would not be treated with kid gloves, considering the quality of players Grant had assembled.

“We know most of the players who are here and what they are doing for their respective clubs. Dauda Mohammed has been in great form for Kumasi Asante Kotoko. As for Wa All Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori, I don’t want to talk about his abilities; Samuel Tetteh just left for Europe and it’s wonderful and we are like one family here and everyone is training well,” he noted.

Rwanda coach, Jimmy Mulisa, has also promised to spoil Ghana’s party. Local-based players, including Eric Ndayishimiye, Salomon Nirisarike, Haruna Niyonzima and Emery Bayisenge, point to their determination to upset the Stars today.
