48 Schools for Milo U-13 Champions League

About 48 schools and 10,0000 pupils are expected to compete in this year's Milo U-13 Champions League football competition which begins on May 17 to 19 in Tamale.

The championship would be staged across four zones with teams from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions commencing the competition in Zone One, while Zone Two comprise teams from the Brong Ahafo and Ashanti regions to compete from May 24 to 26 at the Sunyani Senior High School.

Teams from the Western and Central regions constitute Zone Three who will play at Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), while the Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta regional teams will lock horns in Zone Four from June 7 to 9 at the Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School (PRESEC) at Legon.

The final competition comes off from June 20 to 25 at Elmina, Cape Coast. 

Speaking at the launch last Friday of the competition, dubbed "Building Champions in Life",  the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, appealed to the organisers to include women's U-13 competition in the next championship, adding that the government was ready to become a partner in that cause and pledged his ministry’;s support for the competition.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Barbara Ayisi Acher, said the government was committed to promoting sports at the basic level and would support such corporate initiatives, including the Milo U-13 Champions League. 

Tournament icon and former Black Stars skipper, Stephen Appiah, thanked the organisers and sponsors for putting together the competition which he said would unearth talents for the future.

The Category Manager (Beverages) of Nestle Ghana Limited, Mrs Fumi Osineye, said Milo was committed to inspiring the youth of Ghana to become their very best by embracing good sport.
