Relegate party affiliations to background — Ntim

A deputy Minister of Local Government and Development (LGRD) in charge of Rural Economic Development, Mr Augustine Collins Ntim, has advised assembly members to relegate their party affiliations to the background when they attend assembly meetings.

He said at assembly meetings, all issues discussed boarded on development and it was important that assembly members relegated partisan politics to the background.

Mr Ntim, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Offinso North Constituency, was addressing the Offinso- North District Assembly at its second ordinary meeting of the fourth session at Akomadan.

He said that it must be the paramount interest of all assembly members to ensure that the development of their districts was their prime objective.

In line with this, he said that assembly members should work in collaboration with their district chief executives (DCEs) and heads of departments, as well as the traditional authorities and the citizenry, who elected them as their representatives.

He stressed that with unity and concerted efforts, they could come out with development programmes to complement the central government’s efforts to promote rapid development and growth.

He said that the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had placed premium on the development of the rural areas and was channelling more resources to those areas to transform lives.

Planting for food and jobs

He said the President had also recognised that the country's food basket came from the rural areas, that was why it had introduced a policy on "planting for food and jobs".

As part of government’s policy on "Planting for food and jobs" he said that agricultural inputs such as seeds, as well as varieties of fertilisers had already been sent to metropolitan, municipal and district assembles (MMDAs) to be distributed as an incentive to the farmers to enable them to increase their production.

The DCE of the area, Mr David Kwasi Asare in his address, commended Mr Ntim for his contributions towards the significant development of the district.

He said, as a former DCE and MP, many development projects came under his watch.

He said through his initiative, the construction of a three-storey ultra-modern administrative block for the assembly had commenced and the construction of a 10-seater water-closet (W.C.) had also started at Akomadan, Afrancho, Nkenkansu and Daarso.

More of such facilities would be constructed in other communities in due course, the DCE emphasised.

The MP, Mr Asare noted, had also made available, six transformers to be installed to upgrade electricity at Akomadan, Afrancho, Nkenkansu Senior High School, Nkwaakwa and Biemsu, and added that the contractor was on site to commence work on the project.
