NCCE bemoans women’s low participation in governance
The Kadjebi District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Daniel Agbesi Latsu, has called on women to get involved in the decision-making process of the state and its development efforts at all levels.

He said they needed to participate in the decision-making process and express their views on issues of national interest.
Mr Latsu said one of the key drawbacks in the democratisation process was the low level of participation of women in civic engagement.
This, he said, had resulted in a disequilibrium between the supply and the demand side of good governance.
Mr Latsu made these remarks at a forum organised for the members of the Menuso Muslim Women Association at Menuso in the Kadjebi District in the Volta Region to educate the marginalised and excluded, especially women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), on the need to be involved in the governance of the country.
According to him, participatory democracy occurred when the citizenry realised the need to contribute to the decision-making process and did not sit on the fence only to engage in blame game if things went wrong.
“The process should be devoid of political, ethnic and religious inclinations to achieve the desired results,” he said.
An Assistant Civic Education Officer of the NCCE, Ms Delight Ama Serwa Akey, called on women to get involved in the decision-making process since their inputs were needed for the development of the country.

Ms Akey said even though women formed the majority of Ghana’s population, their involvement in the decision-making processes had been minimal.
This, she said, was worrisome, unacceptable and needed to be changed, if the participation of women in the governance of the country was anything to go by.
She also advised them to send their children, especially the girl-child, to school, rather than pushing them into marriage.
The President of the Menuso Muslim Women Association, Madam Rahinatu Adamu, thanked the commission for the educative programme which had enlightened them on the need to be involved in the governance process.
