Briefing journalists in Accra yesterday, the Director General of the Criminal investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police Mr Prosper K Agblor, enumerated progress made so far in investigations into seven incidents.

“We wish to state that all the cases are being seriously investigated to bring the perpetrators to book. They are at various stages of prosecution and investigations,” he said.

Cases

On the allegations by Mohammed Abdulai, alias Naaba, to the effect that he had been killing people, he said the police arrested Abdulai on November 16 2016 and investigations into the case were ongoing.

Although he would not give further details, Mr Agblor said progress had been made in relation to the clash between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the security detail of the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at his residence at Nima in Accra.

In the recent case of an alleged attack on the NPP parliamentary candidate for Asunafo South, Mr George Boakye, by gun and machete-wielding men suspected to be supporters of the NDC, he said four suspects had been arrested and were being prosecuted.

The persons who were suspected to be behind the attack, Mr Agblor said, had been remanded into prison custody.

Concerning the incidents in Suhum, including the storming of the Electoral Commission’s District Office by some NDC activists who carried away a printer, and an unlawful event organised by some supporters of the NPP, contrary to the Public Order Law, he said some persons had been arrested and processed for court.

“The case in which some persons were alleged to have assaulted some NPP women in Suhum is also being investigated,” he said.

Mr Agblor also said six persons had been arrested and were standing trial in relation to the clash between supporters of the NDC and the NPP at Ajumako Besease in the Central Region where three persons sustained various degrees of injury.

Additionally, he said, four dockets had been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s (A-G) office for advice on the infractions recorded during the Talensi by-election.

Social media

When journalists asked about the Police Administration’s intention to ban social media on the day of election, Mr Agblor stated that “the police cannot go contrary to the statement made by President John Dramani Mahama. The President was clear that nobody would ban social media”.
