Akufo-Addo campaigns at Tain

The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has reminded change-minded Ghanaians to look for the symbol of the elephant when they go to cast their vote on election day.

He said the balloting by the Electoral Commission (EC) had placed him and other parliamentary candidates on different numbers and that to avoid the situation where Ghanaians could be confused, voters should only look out for the symbol of the party, which is the elephant and vote.

Addressing separate rallies in the Western , Central and the Brong Ahafo regions, he said the need for Ghanaians to be smart in the quest for change had become more crucial considering the fact that the positions on the ballot paper had changed this time around.

Look for symbol of  elephant

He said it was, therefore, important that Ghanaians realised the fact that unlike previous years, the numerical arrangements on the ballot sheet had changed and that while he was the fifth on the ballot paper, parliamentary candidates of the NPP held different positions on the paper across the country.

For that matter, he explained, Ghanaians, rather than relying on the number that the NPP occupied, should look out for the symbol of the NPP and vote.

Nana Akufo-Addo cautioned against the ‘skirt and blouse’ as well as the ‘shirt and trousers’ phenomena in voting where people chose to vote for one candidate for the presidential but voted for another candidate for the parliamentary.

He said it would be an unpleasant situation, if Ghanaians voted for him as president and failed to vote for parliamentary candidates of the party.

In order to undertake an effective governance system that would see to the total development of the country, he said, it was imperative that the NPP, in addition to winning the presidency, also got the majority representation in parliament in order to push the developmental agenda of the government in a smoother way.

He reminded Ghanaians that he was committed to the total development of Ghana and that he was not in politics to enrich himself at the expense of the state and the ordinary Ghanaian.

Vision

Making a comparison between his vision and that of President Mahama, he said instead of President Mahama relying on the ‘so-called’ good works he claimed he had achieved for the people of Ghana to speak for him, he was travelling the length and breadth of the country with his wife distributing goodies to voters.

All that he (Nana Akufo-Addo) was asking for, he said, was for fairness in the election so that Ghanaians could have a fair opportunity to express their will without fear or intimidation.

At Sekondi, he said, the oil find should have ensured that the development of the Western Region and the country in general was fast-tracked in a mutually beneficial manner for the betterment of the state and the people of the area.

Regrettably, he said that had not been the case but rather the revenue generated by the state had been woefully mismanaged leading to the situation where there was abundance of wealth yet Ghanaians continued to wallow in abject poverty.

Petrol-chemical industry

A government under his leadership, he said, would work to ensure that the petrol-chemical industry was enhanced to bring richer growth and prosperity to the ordinary person.

He stressed that God did not bless the country with abundant wealth for the people to suffer but sadly, that had become the lot of Ghanaians because the National Democratic Congress (NDC), under the leadership of President Mahama, had failed at developing the required panacea for the betterment of life.

When given the nod, he said, the national wealth would be distributed equitably such that the benefits of national resources would be adequately felt by the people of Ghana.

Towards that end, he said, a government of the NPP would work hard at creating a national railway network to facilitate the development of the country.

National railway network

While the NDC, he said, had seen the development of a national railway network as ‘mission impossible’, a prudent and fastidious administration such as the one the NPP was prepared to offer would make that dream a fait accompli.

Short of ideas, he said, the NDC and President Mahama, for that matter, had resorted to copying his policy proposals saying he first announced the creation of a Western North Region from the current Western Region following which President Mahama decided to promise the creation of five regions.

“He is always waiting for me to initiate my vision for him to copy but regardless of all the political gimmicks and copying that he does, the outcome of the 2016 election would not be affected,” he said.

In the aftermath of the polls when the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) announced the results, she would say emphatically that “Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is declared president-elect of the Republic of Ghana.”
