NPP voted to delay defeat in 2016 election — NDC National Youth Organiser

The National Youth Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Sidii Abubakar Musah, has stated that the decision by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) minority in Parliament to vote to reject the change of the voting day from December 7 to November 7 was just to delay the defeat staring at the party in the 2016 general election.

“The NPP is aware of their defeat in the 2016 general election, hence their decision to vote against the change in the voting day from December 7 to November 7. They can only vote to delay their defeat in the election but it will come to them,” he stressed.

Mr Musah was reacting to a question posed by newsmen at Sang, the Mion Constituency capital in the Northern Region, to an assertion making rounds that the vote to reject the change of the voting day in Parliament last Thursday was a vote of no confidence in President John Dramani Mahama by the majority in Parliament, but he discounted it with the above statement.

The NDC National Youth Organiser explained that many of their Members of Parliament (MPs) were in the hinterlands to monitor the ongoing voters register exhibition and re-registration exercise and, therefore, could not join their colleagues to vote to secure the two-thirds majority required to change the voting day and not as a protest vote as was being speculated.

He said the NDC was ready for this year’s general election any day and any time and added that the party was going to win the election convincingly in order for the opposition NPP not to have any room to challenge the outcome of the polls as they did at the Supreme Court in 2012.

Constituency office

Mr Musah was in the constituency to address party supporters at the handover of a party office constructed by the sitting MP for Mion, Dr Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan, for the constituency and to present four motorbikes and 10 pairs of wellington boots to support the campaign of the elected NDC parliamentary candidate for the 2016 general election, Mr Abdul Aziz.

Mr Aziz defeated the three-time NDC MP for Mion, Dr Alhassan, in the party’s nationwide parliamentary primaries in November last year  to contest the 2016 parliamentary election on the ticket of the party.

Mr Musah, at the ceremony, commended Dr Alhassan for what he described as a “great gesture” to the party and the candidate, saying in spite of Dr Alhassan’s defeat at the primary, he did not turn his back on the party, something he said would go a long way to deliver victory to the party at the constituency and national levels in the 2016 election.

“ Doctor, what you have done today would go a long way to motivate other aspirants who lost in the primaries to do more for the party in their various constituencies and the nation would hear about this,” he stated.

He called on other members of the party, especially those who were defeated in the party’s parliamentary primaries and were sitting on the fence, to join the campaign trail of the party across the country to deliver a resounding victory to it in the 2016 general election.
