NPC must condemn NDC on coffin — Otiko Djaba

The National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Madam Otiko Djaba, has called on the National Peace Council and the clergy to publicly condemn the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC’s) portrayal of the NPP flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, as a dead man at its manifesto launch in Sunyani recently.

She said the NPP would embark on a one-week prayer and fasting across the country next Monday as part of processes to reverse the abomination and called on the public to join in the spiritual warfare.

Some members of the NDC who were at the launch of the party’s manifesto in Sunyani recently carried a coffin with posters of the NPP flag bearer embossed on it to indicate his symbolic defeat in the 2016 general election.

Abomination

Madam Dzaba, who spoke to the Daily Graphic in Accra last Wednesday, condemned the act, describing it as “an abomination, sacrilegious and an attack on the values and norms of the Ghanaian culture.”

“The NDC had no business carrying a coffin with the posters of Nana Akufo-Addo on it. The Ghanaian culture does not permit that at all. They were supposed to talk about their manifesto but not to be wishing other people dead,” she added.

According to her, the action of the NDC at the Sunyani Congress was a manifestation of the fact that they wanted the NPP flag bearer dead, but was quick to add that such evil intentions would not fly.

“Anyway, it is not surprising because the NDC has always said negative things about our flag bearer’s health status, but they must stop the wickedness and focus on an issue-based campaign,” she added.

Decent campaigns

She said democracy enjoined political parties to put across their messages in a manner that would not amount to personality attacks and name calling.

Madam Djaba said the silence of the religious leaders on such an issue would set a bad precedence for other political parties, for which reason she called on the traditional authorities in the Brong Ahafo Region to sanction the NDC.
