NDC intensifies campaign in CR

Going into the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified its campaign in the Central Region with the tenacity to retain its grip of the region.

In the 2012 Presidential Election the NDC garnered 492, 374 representing 51.12 per cent with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) polling 430,135 representing 45.53 per cent.

Of the 23 constituencies in the region the NDC won sixteen and the rest went to the NPP.

Interaction

Against the backdrop of retaining the region, the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, last Wednesday made a return to the region for the second leg of a four-day campaign tour.

His first port of call was the palace of the Chief of Ofaakor, Nai Awoshie Tetteh Odupong III, at Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Constituency where he made a case for the chiefs to support the re-election bid of President Mahama.

He said the Mahama administration had performed creditably to warrant a second term and cited the numerous ongoing infrastructural developments, including the Kasoa interchange.

Mr Amissah-Arthur introduced the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Dr Adams Nuhu, and called on the chiefs and people of the constituency to support him to win the seat.

The constituency is currently held by Madam Mavis Hawa Koomson of the NPP.

The Vice-President asked supporters of the NDC to conduct themselves well ahead of the polls, cautioning that the party would not shield but would rather expose and help the security authorities to deal with its supporters caught in fomenting trouble.

Chief commends

Nai Odupong III commended the government for the numerous development interventions it had undertaken in the constituency and pledged his support for President Mahama.

He appealed to the government to name the Kasoa interchange after one of its late chiefs, who was instrumental in the development of the area.

Achievements

The Vice-President and his campaign team had interactions with officials of the Central Regional branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in Kasoa to sell the party’s message to them.
