‘Governance lacks culture of building on foundation of others’

Governance has since lacked the culture of building upon the foundation of others, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), Ms Rita Odoley Sowah, has observed.

This, she pointed out, had negatively affected national development.

Ms Sowah said this when the assembly celebrated more than 200 senior citizens in the municipality on Republic Day.

The assembly presented a half piece of Guaranteed Textile Print (GTP) to each of the senior citizens and feted them with food and drinks.

Sober reflection

She stressed that it was important for Ghanaians to reflect on the 56 years journey of the country as a Republic by looking back to where the nation started and its present status as they considered the future of the nation.

The MCE called on all stakeholders to take a deeper reflection as a nation to assess themselves, identify their shortfalls and strategise to improve upon areas that can impact on the development of the country.

She also urged those in authority and the youth alike to make conscious efforts in placing the nation at a level that everyone would be proud of in the near future.

Eulogy

Ms Sowah eulogised all the founding fathers of the nation, reiterating that their contributions to the attainment of Ghana’s Republic must not be relegated to the background as they sacrificed a lot for mother Ghana.

She said Ghanaians owed much appreciation to former President Jerry John Rawlings for returning Ghana to the path of democracy which had since enabled the country to enjoy quality democracy for the past 24 years.

Ms Sowah emphasised the need to uphold the tenets of democracy to make it sustainable in the quest to achieve national progress and prosperity. The MCE added that the Mahama-led administration aimed to encourage light industrial activities within the communities as a means of creating more jobs and improving the socio-economic well-being of Ghanaians. She, however, urged the senior citizens to reciprocate the recognition given them by placing their expertise and experiences at the disposal of the youth.
