So far, two schools have been constructed under the agreement at Vodzakpo and Mangoase, with two taking off simultaneously at Agotime-Wodome and Akpokope while four others have been approved for Obemla and Vodome in the Agotime traditional area and Bejame and Astrulume in the Ziope traditional area.

Under the agreement, the beneficiary communities provided sand and communal labour while their counterparts in the USA provided all building materials such as cement, roofing sheets, nails, paint, iron rods with the district assembly bearing the cost of artisan work.

Talking on the side line of a communal day at Agotime-Wodome, the Agotime-Ziope District Chief Executive,  (DCE)  Mr Michael Kobla Adjaho, said the assembly undertook  the scheme because it was in line with government policy to eliminate schools under trees and that with the high communal spirit of the people, it was expected that all schools under sheds would be transformed into buildings by 2016.

He commended the communities for embracing the project with a high sense of community ownership adding that it was a demonstration of self-reliance for achieving targets and advised that they should translate the enthusiasm by ensuring that all children of school-going age were enrolled in schools.

Mr Adzaho advised teachers to be punctual at school and let the high spirit of self esteem permeate their lives in order for them to perform better.

The project director of the Disaster Volunteers of Ghana (DIVOG), Mr Robert Tornu, who coordinated the participation of some volunteers from the University of New York, Abu Dhabi campus in communal work, projected that the new school building would be completed within four months.

He said the participation of foreign volunteers would serve as a motivation to the people and to let them uphold the principles of self -reliance.

The chief of Agotime-Wodome, Togbe Avinumado V, commended the DCE  and the assembly for the proven record of connecting the area to the national electricity grid, the provision of a borehole, the construction of a school building for the local Junior High School and fostering unity among all chiefs in the area.

He appealed for a KVIP and pledged  to   all assembly programmes.
