Two donor organisations, Breast Care International (BCI) and Direct Relief, a US-based organisation, which are keen on improving the health status of Ghanaians, have, therefore, stepped up a campaign of creating the needed awareness of non-communicable diseases, clinical screening for breast cancer, hypertension and diabetes.

For the second time in a month, the two organisations have donated drugs and medical consumables worth $4.3 million to some hospitals, polyclinics, clinics and healthcare centres across the country.

During the presentation ceremony which took place on the premises of the Peace and Love Hospital at Oduom in Kumasi, the President of BCI, Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, said the “quest and zeal of the two donor institutions to reach out to the needy in society was motivated and driven by the desire for a healthy and productive population”.

This, she noted, was envisaged by the 17 targeted UN SDGs, notably the third goal on “good health and well-being”.

Dr Wiafe Addai, who doubles as the CEO of the Peace and Love Hospitals, commended Direct Relief for remaining dedicated to the improvement of quality life and the restoration of human dignity, while collaborating with health service organisations to donate medical supplies in some 60 countries.

She stressed that the BCI would continue to collaborate with like-minded institutions around the globe in the campaign to bring relief and improve on the living conditions of Ghanaians, adding that BCI would stop at nothing to realise this mission statement.

The latest donation to over 30 health institutions comes barely a month on the heels of a similar donation to 17 health facilities.

The current donation was put together by Johnson and Johnson Consumer Companies , Baxter international Inc., Tyco Healthcare group LP, 3M consumer Healthcare, Boehriger Ingelheim, Unilever, U.S.,  Covidien,  Merk & Co, Inc., Hospira, Ethicon, Becton Dickinson Consumer and Neutrogena Corporation.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Jaman South, Mr M. Afful, who also represented the Drobo Polyclinic, on behalf of beneficiaries, commended the donors and assured them of the judicious use of the items.
