The items, which included bags of rice, assorted drinks, tins of milk and bags of sachet water, are meant to support the upkeep of the inmates, who are mostly aged.

Objectives

According to the President of LACI, Ernest Kwasi Boateng, the gesture was part of the organisation’s objective of assisting the needy and the less privileged in society.

He said the organisation was formed principally to help address some of the challenges faced by institutions that catered for the needy and the vulnerable.

According to Mr Boateng, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Ernesca Construction Company Limited, LACI was determined to provide basic items to help improve the lives of the less privileged.

Based on that, he said, the organisation had outlined a series of activities to support needy institutions and the vulnerable in society.

Appreciation
An inmate of the Weija Leprosarium, Madam Gladys Adobea, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the leadership of LACI and appealed to other corporate institutions to come to their aid.

She said the leprosarium, since its inception some 65 years ago, had relied on the benevolence of individuals and organisations for assistance.

Madam Adobea mentioned inadequate infrastructure, funding and the lack of social amenities as some of the major challenges facing the facility.
