The family of the accused is said to have consumed the soup without reserving some for him.

Tamah, a farmer from Gbingbane, a village near Bunkpurugu in the Northern Region, pleaded not guilty to the count of murder but was sentenced by the court, presided over by Mr Justice Jerome Noble-

Nkrumah, after a seven-member jury returned with a unanimous verdict of guilty.

Facts

The prosecution’s case was that Kwadwo killed his younger step-brother, Bassah Tamah, on February 11, 2012 over an argument in respect of chicken soup which the family consumed without reserving some for him.

The father of Kwadwo Tamah, who is also the father of Bassah, was given a cock as a gift, but it went missing.

Kwadwo found it and advised his father to slaughter and use it for a meal.

He slaugthered the cock and gave it to his step-mother (the mother of the Bassah).

Kwadwo left the house and when he returned later in the evening, he realised that no soup had been reserved for him. He confronted his step-brother and an argument ensued and Kwadwo stabbed his brother, leading to his death.
