Additionally, the council has withheld the results of candidates from 85 schools for alleged cases of mass cheating.

The withheld results will be cancelled if the candidates are found culpable or released if otherwise.

A statement signed and issued by the Deputy Director of Public Affairs of the council, Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, announcing the release of the provisional results, said 598 candidates had their entire results cancelled, while 13 others whose results were cancelled had been barred from taking any of the council’s examinations for two years, mainly for impersonation during the examination.

The statement further said 1,576 candidates had their subject results cancelled.

It said with the aid of the Item Differentia Profile (IDP) software, 2,293 candidates who were identified to have cheated in the English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science papers had had their relevant subject results cancelled.

It said the council was in the process of despatching the results to the schools and candidates were advised to contact their heads of schools for their results.

“Meanwhile, the council has hosted the results online and candidates who so desire may access their results at the council’s website,” it said.

Beware of impostors

“The council is alerting members of the public, especially candidates, to be wary of impostors who promise to change examination results for a fee.

“The activities of these persons are being investigated and culprits will be brought to book. Candidates are to note that all WAEC results are well secured and can be authenticated and persons with forged results will be exposed,” the statement said.
