The provision of the services which was supported by the Audiology department of the University of Education(UEW) took place at the Methodist Rafiki Village at Gyaahadze in Winneba.

The orphanage owned by the Methodist Church has about 150 school children and kids.

More than 100 inhabitants of these two communities in Gyaahadze including kids had their ears checked for wax, otitis externa, otitis media and other ailments.

They were carefully examined and treated by medical practitioners from the Audiology department of UEW led by Rotary Ambassadorial scholar Dr Yaw Nyadu Offei, an audiologist.

Some patrons of the clinic also had their eyes screened and checked for glaucoma and other eye disorders.

Dr Nyadu Offei explained to the attendees that the ear is a very vital part of the body and must not be taken lightly. He cautioned against abuse of their by inserting any unapproved objects inside the ear.

He entreated parents to carefully and closely monitor the ear defects of their wards particularly those of school going age when they are in the classroom.

According to him the ear is a very delicate organ of the body and when a child gets ear defects which impairs his or her hearing in the classroom it affects the ward’s progress in class.

He cautioned against the use of  any ear drops into the ear saying when one identifies any ailment of the ear, a proper medical attention from a qualified audiologist must be made to check first to diagnose properly what is wrong with the ear.

The president of Rotary Club of Accra, Labone, Lamtiig Apanga noted that the clinic was a step in progress against the backdrop of the donation of a mobile audiology van to the audiology department of UEW by the Rotary Club of UK.

He said Rotary Club Labone is ready to serve society at all times freely using their expertise or other expertise from other professions.

The Methodist Pastor at the Methodist Rafiki Village, Ekwo Sey expressed gratitude to the Labone Rotary Club and called on them to visit the orphanage regularly.
