The institutions are the Osu Children’s Home, the Accra Psychiatric Hospital and the Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region.

Dr Bawumia noted that as Muslims celebrated the Eid-ul-Fitr Festival, there was the need for them to extend love, care and affection to their fellow humans in all spheres of life, irrespective of their religious background and beliefs.

Presenting the items to the three institutions, he expressed appreciation to the managers of the facilities for their efforts, in spite of the limited resources available to them.

Difficulties facing caregivers

He added that he was touched by the difficulties caregivers had gone through these past years and assured them that the government would make every necessary effort to support them by way of provision of infrastructure, logistics and personnel to enhance their work at the facilities.

He indicated that the government was making efforts to pass the Mental Health Bill to enhance the work of psychiatric facilities, as well as providing them with more opportunities.

Dr Bawumia urged the institutions to continue with the good work they had been doing to care for the destitute and neglected people in society.
