Upper Amenfi Rural Bank opens branch at Asankragwa

The Upper Amenfi Rural Bank, with its headquarters at Ankwawso in the Wassa Amenfi Central District in the Western Region has opened a branch at Asankragwa.

This brings to nine the number of branches the bank has in addition to two mobilisation centres at Sefwi Awaso and Adjakaa Manso. The branches are located at Dunkwa-on-Offin, Diaso, Sefwi Bekwai, Sefwi Dwenase, Sefwi Wiawso, on the Watico campus, Agona Amenfi, Sefwi Akontombra, Ankwawso and lately Asankragwa.

Upper Amenfi Rural Bank started as an agency of the Amenfiman Rural Bank in 1981. Through mobilisation of shares, it was transformed into a full-fledged bank in 1987.

Speaking at the inauguration of the bank’s branch at Asankragwa, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank, Mr Alfred Columbus Amoah, said the bank had products, including the traditional current account, savings and fixed deposits. 

He said it had in addition loans for traders, farmers, groups, and salaried workers as well as Susu, Apex link money transfer, Western Union Money transfer, Moneygram and facilitates for mobile money transfers.

He said the bank had established mobile banking units in all its branches. 

Mr Amoah said the bank’s activities were networked, enabling customers to withdraw money at any of its branches provided they could be identified. 

He urged the public to endeavour to buy shares in the bank to enable them to become part owners and share in profits the bank made. 

The Gyasehene of the Asankragwa Traditional Area, Nana Adu Boahen, urged staff of the bank to have good relationships with customers. He also advised loan beneficiaries to endeavour to repay loans they received in order that others might also gain access to the facility.

The Wassa Amenfi District Officer of the bank, Mr Bright Owusu Kwarteng, who chaired the opening ceremony, urged management of the Asankragwa branch to take good care of funds under their care and challenged financial institutions in the country to consider giving loans to workers in the informal sector.
