He said the eyes of the world were on Ghana once again in the political activities leading to the conduct of the December 7 polls that would give the country another opportunity to prove that “it is a model of democracy in Africa.”

Obrempong Krampah XI, who is also the President of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council ( GATC), made the call when he addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area in the Central Region to mark their third Gomoa Akwambokese Festival at Gomoa Ajumako last Saturday.

The theme of the festival was: “The role of Chiefs in the promotion of peace, security and stability.”

Peace

Obrempong Krampah advised the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure transparent election “for Ghanaians to continue to enjoy the peace we have today.”

He said the recent peaceful election in the United States of America (USA) in which the losing candidate congratulated the winning candidate should be a lesson to the political parties.

He noted that Ghanaians should use what happened in America during their election as a lesson. Americans voted peacefully and candidates congratulated one another after the results were declared.

“Social economic development is what we need in Ghana, so any President who will bring development in Ghana is what we should wish for. Central Region chiefs are ready to give their best and work together with any President  to bring development to Ghana,” he said.

He pledged his commitment to work with his colleagues to resolve land and chieftaincy disputes in the area and appealed to the chiefs to use land as equity instead of selling it outright.

Obrempong Krampah called on the government to complete road and other infrastructure projects initiated many years ago in the Central Region.

Election is not War

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, who represented the President of Ghana, Mr John Dramani Mahama, said the country needed peace and security for the upcoming election and, therefore, advised all to appreciate unity in diversity since it was the basis for peace and development.

He urged Ghanaians not to be deceived by anyone to do things that would cause war before, during or after the election.

He presented four crates of soft drinks and local gin, as well as a cash of GH₵5,000, to the chiefs towards the celebration of the festival.
