The badly burnt remains of the deceased, who could not be identified due to the intensity of the fire, have been deposited at the morgue.

He is suspected to have embarked on a robbery expedition with two others who managed to escape the mob action.

An eyewitness, Mr Kwaku Amoah, told The Mirror that it was about 5 a.m. that Friday, February 14, 2014 when residents in the area heard of gunshots suspected to have been fired by some robbers who have been terrorising residents in the neighbourhood.

Mr Amoah said some volunteers in the community who heard of the gunshots constituted a team and pursued the three suspected robbers and engaged them in a shoot-out.

He said it was during the shoot-out that two of the suspected robbers managed to escape.

The deceased, who was hit by the bullets, however, could not escape and was captured by the volunteers.

He said the volunteers then called for help and some residents and passers-by joined in a mob action and subjected him to severe beatings.

Mr Amoah said after beating him mercilessly, the mob then put some used car tyres around his neck and set him ablaze.

The police in Kumasi are investigating the matter.
