Prez Mahama inaugurates New Longoro, Krobo Community Day SHSs
President John Dramani Mahama yesterday inaugurated two community day senior high schools (SHSs) at New Longoro and Krobo in the Brong Ahafo Region.

With the new schools, the region now has four community day SHSs completed and inaugurated, with the other two at Abease and Derma.
President Mahama said he was looking forward to the day the rest of the 16 schools being built in the region would be completed.
It was all joy at New Longoro in the Kintampo South District as hundreds of people, including chiefs, turned up to witness the inauguration of the new school.
Students of the Degha Community SHS in the area, which is housed in dilapidated structures, will move into the new school, while fresh students are to be admitted for the 2016/17 academic year.
Facilities
Facilities in the E-shaped New Longoro Community Day SHS include 24 classrooms, Physics, Chemistry, General Science and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) laboratories, a library, an assembly hall, offices and a canteen.
It also has a headmaster's bungalow and a teachers' apartment to accommodate six families.
A brand new bus that will transport students to and from the school and a brand new pick-up to facilitate administrative work were presented to the school by the government.
President Mahama stated that about 40 teaching and non-teaching staff would work in the new school.
Additionally, hundreds of indirect jobs would be created by the presence of the school.
He described the New Longoro Community Day SHS as probably one of the best sited schools in the country, looking at the catchment area which included Bamboi in the Northern Region.

Enrol students
The President asked the Ghana Education Service (GES) to enrol students in the schools once construction was completed and not wait for their inauguration before enrolment started.
He said the government took education seriously because education built the human resource needed for national development.
He refuted claims in certain quarters that the government had put a stop to the recruitment of teachers, and said currently 2,400 teachers were being recruited, some of whom would teach in the community day SHSs.
He gave an assurance that textbooks and other learning materials would soon be supplied to the students.
Mahama praised
The acting President of the Mo Traditional Council, Nana Abobrim Yaw Dompo II, in his address, commended the President for the numerous development projects his government had provided for the area.
He described the SHS as one of the best things to happen to the community and assured the President that the people would show their gratitude to him on December 7 by voting massively for the NDC.
A Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Alex Kyeremeh, said anyone who would say the standard of education was on the decline must not be taken seriously because the reality on the ground proved otherwise.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, urged the people of the region to continue to support the President as he worked to bring more development projects to the area.
