Junior Graphic launches National Fan Club Spelling Competition

The Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) will soon introduce a newspaper that will serve students in second- cycle schools in the country.

The move is to meet the needs of senior high school students and other young people who are older than basic school students.

The Editor of the Junior Graphic, Mrs Mavis Kitcher, said this at the launch of the Junior Graphic National Fan Club Spelling Competition at the Early Bird School in Accra yesterday.

The event was sponsored by the Ecobank, EPP Books Services, Afram Publications and Twellium Industrial Limited.

Launch

The competition, Mrs Kitcher said, was to assist children in basic schools to consolidate their reading skills through the correct spelling of words. 

She explained that children who read widely and developed their spelling skills became good writers and also confident students. 

She encouraged children to read more to aid them to be good students and advised them to diligently follow all aspects of the Junior Graphic, which is dedicated to helping them to perform well in all aspects of their education.

 “Do not waste your years in school but do the best for yourselves by studying to achieve your goals,” she advised children.

Ecobank

The Head of Marketing at Ecobank, Mr Kasser Tee, said in the bank’s bid to discharge its corporate social responsibility, it had introduced financial inclusion which introduced the culture of saving among children, as well as adults.

He encouraged the students to cultivate the habit of saving in a piggy bank by depositing small amounts of money they had  and when they obtained at least GH¢50, they could open Junior Saver Savings Accounts with Ecobank.

The students of the Early Bird School entertained the audience at the event with a spectacular cultural performance depicting the various traditional dances in Ghana to signify the unity among the people of Ghana.

Competition 

The first competition was among three participating schools, namely, the Falsyd Foundation School, the Perpetual Help School and the Early Bird School, all of which are members of the Junior Graphic Fan Club. 

During the competition, the contestants had the opportunity to ask the meaning of the words to assist them to spell them correctly.

In the end, the Falsyd Foundation School came first, with the Early Bird and the Perpetual Help schools taking the second and third positions, respectively. 

They all took home prizes for their respective positions.

Falsyd Foundation will join the winning school from the other zones in the quarter-final contest.
