Police apprehend murder suspects in Accra

The Police have apprehended the suspected murderers of the President of the Catholic Twin Foundation, Mrs Lucy Peprah Tawiah, at her residence at Abelemkpe in Accra last Saturday.

They are the night security man, Osman Yakubu, 26, and the driver of the deceased, Benjamin Semabia, 65. 

Mrs Tawiah was said to have been inflicted with machete wounds on her head, face, neck and arms just after stepping out of her bathroom. 

Yakubu is also alleged to have stabbed Mrs Tawiah in the chest and the stomach multiple times.                                                                                                                            

According to the police, Yakubu after his alleged dastardly act, called his accomplice, Semabia, with the deceased’s mobile phone to inform him that he had butchered Mrs  Tawiah and that he “was done and needed help”.

Attempt

The police also alleged that Yakubu attempted killing three other persons who tried to prevent him from attacking Mrs Tawaih.

The three were identified as Raymond Raphael Achianku, 24, the day security guard at Mrs Tawiah’s residence; Michael Abiasa, a cook, and Ronnie Djanison, a taxi driver, who heard the cries of the deceased and attempted to help.

While Djanison was treated and discharged from the Police Hospital, Achianku is receiving treatment at the Mamobi Polyclinic, with Abiasa still in a critical condition at the 37 Military Hospital.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Tesano District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Edward Tetteh, said at about 10 p.m. on Saturday, the police received a distress call that a former principal of the St Monica’s Training College had been attacked.

He said when his men arrived at the scene, they found out that Yakubu, who wielded two machetes, had locked himself up in one of the rooms in the house.

Claims

During interrogation, Mr Tetteh said, Yakubu claimed that Achianku and Abiasa had been gossiping about him to Mrs Tawiah.

Yakubu told the police that he had reliable information to the effect that Mrs Tawiah had intended to kill him for ritual purposes the following Sunday, “and so I killed her on Saturday before the Sunday”.

Background

Mrs Peprah Tawiah was a former Principal of the St Monica’s Training College in Mampong in the Ashanti Region, founder of the Solid Foundation School at Abelemkpe and former student of the Holy Child School, Cape Coast. 

Yakubu who had lived with Mrs Tawaih for one-and-a-half years sometimes doubled as a gardener in the house.
