About 54 students of the Akuafo House, the affected dormitory of the school, located at Akropong Akwapem in the Eastern Region, had their belongings completely destroyed by the fire while a second-year student, who was sick and asleep in one of the rooms in the dormitory, was rescued and later referred to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

Mr Afari said the students currently needed metal beds, mattresses, books, blankets and basic toiletries.

He commended the Ghana National Fire Service and a section of the student body and staff who helped in containing the fire, to prevent it from spreading to other dormitories.

On a visit the Daily Graphic saw that the house needed to be reconstructed in order to prevent congestion when first year students arrive later in the year.

So far, 50 of the affected students have been supplied with mattresses, a pair of school uniforms each, house jerseys, outing attires, exercise and notebooks. They have also been referred to the Counselling Unit for counselling, as a result of the trauma they were going through.
