Man jailed 25 years for robbery, rape
The Accra Circuit Court last Monday sentenced an armed robber to 25 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbing and raping the spouse of his victim at knife point at Dansoman in Accra.

The convict, Bernard Kofi Owusu Acheampong, robbed the wife and her husband of their belongings at their residence at about 1 a.m. on February 19, 2015.
He pleaded not guilty to two counts of robbery.
Facts of the case
Prosecuting, Inspector Grace Bandoh told the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, that the complainant resided with his wife at Dansoman, while Acheampong was an unemployed living at Bubuashie in Accra.
She said at about 1 a.m. on February 19, 2015, Acheampong, armed with a knife, scaled the back wall of the complainant’s house and entered the compound where he picked a rag to mask his face.
She said Acheampong then climbed an extension roof to gain access to the complainant’s toilet through the window.
Inspector Bandoh said the convict then proceeded to the living room of the complainant and removed a 52-inch flat-screen from the wall.
He later climbed upstairs where he met the complainant’s wife who was heading for the washroom.
She said the convict pointed the knife at the wife and escorted her to the bedroom where her husband was sleeping.
When the husband woke up, Acheampong pointed the knife at them and ordered them to bring out their laptops and mobile phones.
The victims obliged and Acheampong packed all the items into a pillow case and gave them to the complainant’s wife to carry downstairs.
He locked the husband in the bedroom and followed the wife downstairs where he ordered her to lay on the carpet and raped her at knife point.
After the act, Acheampong instructed the victim to go upstairs to join her husband.
He then left the knife and the rag he used and bolted with the booty through the main entrance after he had collected all the keys to the house.
The complainant and his wife later called the Dansoman Police and reported the matter.
Fortunately, one of the victim’s phones had a tracking device software installed on it.
With the help of the device, Acheampong was traced to his hideout at Adakope at Dansoman where he was arrested.
