“By our conducts, we serve as mentors and, therefore, we need to demonstrate values of decency, compassion, credibility and love for one another in the discharge of our responsibilities in political governance, religion, chieftaincy or any other civil society organisation we are appointed to serve,” he stated.

Ordination

The Rt Rev. Dr Agidi was speaking in Ho during the ordination service for 23 pastors of the EP Church.

The newly ordained pastors, being seven females and 16 males, were presented with pastoral gowns following their successful completion of a two-year probation after being  commissioned into the ministry and attaining their theological academic requirements.

The Rt Rev. Dr Agidi expressed concern over what he described as the politics of lies, indecent language and verbal attacks by some politicians and their actors.

“Why should you allow yourselves to be swayed by this unwarranted offensive behaviour? The contest of seeking political power should not be turned into a battle of malice and violent attacks against one another,” he stated.

He called on the media to espouse values of accuracy, fairness and high ethical standards of professionalism in their reportage.

Welfare

The Moderator of the EP Church of Togo, the Rt Rev. Dr Paul Sename Avinou, underscored the need for political leaders to seek the welfare of the disadvantaged in society.

He urged the newly ordained pastors to serve in a spirit of faith and dedication to duty by emulating the Apostle Paul in the Bible.
