Indian association supports water sector in Bawku
The Indian Association of Ghana has presented more than 20 hand pumps and accessories valued at GH¢30,000 towards the provision of water to the people of Bawku in the Upper East Region.

At a ceremony to hand over the items to the beneficiaries in Accra last Thursday, the Vice-President of the association, Mr Rajesh Thakker, said members were privileged to contribute towards the provision of potable water for the people.
Partnership
He said there had been an existing partnership between the Indian community in Ghana and some communities in the country in the provision of potable water, school facilities and other social amenities to augment the support of the government.
Mr Thakker gave an assurance that the association would continue in its efforts to alleviate challenges faced by people in deprived communities as part of efforts to strengthen the over six decades of friendship between Ghana and India.
Appreciation
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central and a former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr Mahama Ayariga, expressed appreciation to the association for the support.
He explained that the donation was in response to a promise by their benefactors during a visit by the President of India, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, last year.
Mr Ayariga said 120 boreholes had already been sunk and that the provision of the hand pumps would now enable them to complete the project.
According to him, the water project would go a long way to improve the well-being of the people in Bawku Central.
