The exercise, which was organised in partnership with Acts in Africa, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), brought together doctors from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Pantang Hospital.

Beneficiaries were screened for diseases such as malaria, hepatitis B, blood sugar level, diabetes.

Aside the free medications given to the beneficiaries who were diagnosed with various diseases, the outreach also included counselling and prayer sessions.

The Church

The Head pastor of the church, Rev. Samuel Antwi, said the health outreach was open to all who were interested, irrespective of where they came from.

He said people died regularly because they could not afford to visit health facilities when they were ill;  therefore, the outreach was a way of extending support to such people.

Rev. Antwi said the outreach was to show love, as well as a way of letting other people, who may not be members of the church, to experience the love of God through the church.

He, therefore, advised the public to take their health issues seriously and go for regular check-ups to prevent premature deaths and urged churches and other charitable foundations to embark on similar programmes and reach out to the poor.

The Foundation

For his part, a board member of Acts in Africa, Mr Cletus Tanye, said the NGO, which was into rural health and evangelism, was setting up mobile clinics in chosen areas to take care of the community’s medical health and also to minister Christ to them.

He said the focus was to use a medical outreach to get to the people in the community in order to create a cordial relationship between the church and the residents.
