GNASBA marks 23rd anniversary with tree planting

The Ghana National Scholarship Beneficiaries Association (GNASBA) has marked its 23 years with activities in Kumasi that promote health and the environment. As part of the activities, GNASPA organised a three-hour general clean-up exercise and planted trees at Asem Boys Junior High School to commemorate the anniversary.

The association also presented litter bins, financed by Fan Milk Limited, to some selected schools in the Kumasi Metropolis, as part of its “Schools Health and Afforestation Programme”.

The anniversary was jointly organised by GNASBA, Ghana Education Service, Fan Milk Limited and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

Addressing the students and pupils, the Marketing Manager of Fan Milk Ltd, Ms Gifty Adjei-Fianko, commended members of GNASBA for their hard work and tireless sacrifices they had made to help intensify the country’s school health and afforestation programmes countrywide for the past 23 years.

She added that the history of GNASBA could not be complete if Fan Milk Ltd, their major sponsors, was not mentioned of its continuous support.

Ms Adjei-Fianko also commended the venue for the celebration, Asem Boys School, which she said was very appropriate as the school had produced great leaders such as Mr Kofi Annan, the former United Nations Secretary-General, former President J. A. Kufuor, General Arnold Quinoo (retd), Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, some chiefs and elders.

The Queenmother of Mamponten Traditional Area, Nana Kyerew Akenteng II, was the Special Guest of Honour.

The Public Relation Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr Godwin Kuma Nyame, extended the assembly’s commendation to GNASBA for their selflessness across the length and breadth of the country, especially their support to schools in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Mr Nyame said the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly had put in place new policies to help intensify the environmental and sanitation activities in the metropolis.

For his part, the Chairman for the occasion, the Metro Director of the Ghana Education Service, Mr Alexander Attah-Asante, congratulated the GNASBA and its major sponsor Fan Milk Ltd on their continuous support to schools across the country.

He appealed to the schools to help keep their environments clean and healthy.
