The Former Ambassadors Wives Association (FAWA) has feted members of the HelpAge Ghana (HAG), as part of activities to mark its 21st anniversary celebrations.

The occasion also coincided with the celebrations of Ghana’s 60th Independence anniversary.

The event brought together members of the HelpAge Ghana who have been adopted by FAWA through their Adopt-a-granny initiative.

Giving back to society

The Vice President of FAWA, Mrs Beatrice Abbey, in an interview said FAWA would organise a year-long programme for the celebration.

She said FAWA would also make donations and host a similar event for the Princess Marie Louis Hospital as part of the celebration, as a way of giving back to the society.

“After living outside the country for so many years, we feel we have to give back to the society that we belong to,” she said.

HelpAge Ghana is a non-governmental organisation which seeks to cater for the elderly in the society and provides for their basic needs.

Importance of personal fitness

Speaking at the event, a specialist in exercise therapy and fitness nutrition, Dr Kwadwo Essel, educated the members on the importance of smiling, laughing, massaging their bodies, proper breathing and healthy eating habits.

He also encouraged them to exercise regularly and maintain good oral hygiene.

On good oral hygiene, Dr Essel cautioned members of HelpAge Ghana on the excessive use of lemon, which has now been adopted by a lot of people in a bid to lose weight.

He indicated that the excessive use of lemon juice has dire consequences on the teeth by removing the protective layer and reducing enamel hardness.
