This is the first time since its establishment in 38 years that the institute had appointed a woman as its president.

New Executives

Rev. (Mrs) Sappor was sworn-in alongside Mr Peter C.N Sangber-Dery as Vice President; Mr Festus Kwofie as the Treasurer and Mrs Shirley-Ann Awuletey Williams as an executive member, to run the institute as its governing body.

She indicated that under her leadership, she and the executive body would reposition the institute to be a world-class financial professional learning centre.

According to Rev. (Mrs) Sappor, the institute’s vision would be achieved through re-engineering of its educational process, to produce innovative and digital savvy banking professionals.

She said the institute would raise funds to build an ultra-modern CIB educational facility, as well as collaborate with the Bank of Ghana to support and strengthen the non-bank financial institutions.

She added that the institute would work with the Bank of Ghana, association of bankers and other stakeholders, in collaboration with the government, to offer suggestions that would contribute to the growth of the economy.

Collaboration

According to Rev. (Mrs) Sappor, the institute would collaborate with the Central Bank to support microfinance institutions in the country, saying, “We know they need some kind of support, so we will collaborate with the Central Bank to support them.’’

She explained that the support would be by way of training to keep them abreast of what was expected of them in the banking sector, pointing out that it was critical to keep abreast of the changing trends in the market place.

Outgoing president

The outgoing President of the institute, Mr Clifford Mettle, said he was certain that Rev. (Mrs) Sappor would give her best in governing the institute, adding, “I have worked with her and I know what I am talking about’’.

He said despite the challenges facing the sector, the institute would aim at preparing its students to strive for excellence in an extremely competitive environment in the banking sector, and encouraged the new executive to design innovative means of governing the institute.
