‘Bring back contractors to complete projects’

The paramount chiefs of two traditional areas and the chiefs of villages along certain feeder roads in the Volta Region have asked the Volta Regional Minister to prevail on the Department of Feeder Roads (DFR) to call back to site certain contractors to complete projects awarded them more than 10 years ago.

The paramount chiefs are Nana Akoto Masakyi III of the Lolobi Traditional Area in the Hohoe Municipality and Togbe Adza Wiah Kwesi II of the Kpalime Traditional Area in the South Dayi District. 

According to Nana Masakyi III, the contractor, who worked on a segment of a road from Hohoe through Lolobi, abandoned the job after executing part of it haphazardly.

Abandoned projects

The people of Likpe-Kukurantumi and Likpe-Abrani have also complained about the neglected state of their roads, which were awarded as cocoa road projects and funded by the Ghana Cocoa Board but which remained uncompleted.

Nana Masakyi III, who made the appeal at a durbar to climax the Lolobi Ipor Rice Festival of the people, expressed dismay that while two out of the four contractors working on the Hohoe to Dzolu stretch of  the road had completed work on their portions, the others had not but they have been left to go scot free.

For his part, Togbe Adza Wiah Kwesi II said the road linking Anyirawase and Kpeve left much to be desired, adding that the portion running through Kpalime Wegbe was extremely dangerous to the travelling public.

“This road was awarded on contract for rehabilitation. The contractor came on site and cleared the shoulders of the road. That was the last time any work was done on it,” he said.

He said the Todome-Dzemeni road that had not been tarred for decades was awarded as a cocoa road project but work had almost stalled.
