The book entitled “Heart wrenching marriages: From surviving to thriving (When Divorce is not an option), was authored by Dr Esi Gaisie Tetteh, a Child Psychologist.

It gives married couples and counselors, courting couples, pastors and Christians in general tools to deal with the challenges in marriage and put the necessary measures in place to transform marriages into what God originally meant them to be.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) recorded about 4,080 divorce cases from 2006 to 2014, with more than half of marriages last year ending in divorce.

Some of the topics treated are: Marriage has a master plan; Men and women are different, it matters; For better or for worse; The place of love and respect; Love, vulnerability and forgiveness.

According to Dr Tetteh, she took the inspiration to write the book from the police personnel and firemen during the aftermath of 911, who when everyone was running away from the disaster area, were running towards it,  giving others guidelines to move away from the danger zone.

She noted that by tackling this sensitive area in marriage, she is doing her duty as a servant in God’s police service to discourage couples from staying bitter and offended in marriages and urged them to discuss topics in marriage that are often a taboo to talk about.

Speaking at the launch, a former Head of the Guidance and Counseling Department of the University of Ghana, Rev. John G. Egyir-Croffet, said the book was timely and would facilitate the protection of marriages from divorce.

He stressed on the quotation in the Bible that says God hates divorce and said, “If we commit to honouring God in obeying him and what He has instructed us in His word, even if it is very difficult, He will also see to it that we do not lose His blessings in this life and our ultimate reward in eternity.”

The launch organised by Innova DDB, Rezultz Advertising and Touchpoint Magna Carta, was themed, “A night of the arts”, and the programme  saw an art exhibition by abstract artist, Comfort Walker and spoken word performances by musician and composer, C-Real.
