The society also inducted 36 members into various committees to serve four-year terms.

Dr Joyce R. Aryee was inducted as the President of the council, with Rev. Dr Steve Asante, the immediate past President of the Ghana Baptist Convention as the First Vice-President.

Apostle Peter Okoe Mankralo, the President of the Apostolic Church-Ghana was inducted as the Second Vice-President, while Mrs Efua Ghartey, a corporate lawyer maintained her position as the Chairperson of the council, with Mr J. N. B. Tetteh, a retired banker being appointed as Vice-Chairman.

The members of council and committees from various denominations were also inducted, with expected oversight responsibilities over the operations of the society.

The new officials were appointed at the last BSG annual general meeting held in August last year.

The President
In her acceptance address, Dr Aryee said although hers was a big responsibility, it was equally a great privilege to serve in the Lord’s business.

“We willingly accept to serve in this position knowing that the Holy Spirit is our Helper, without Whom we can do nothing. We will put our hand in the hand of the Holy Spirit, we will walk in step with Him and we know that He will make us willing to do this work,” she said.

“We are mere servants but the Lord, who always rewards those who serve Him, will be pleased with us because we are called to serve with the Holy Spirit,” she added.

Fundraising, induction service
After the induction rites and the presentation of plaques to past council and committee members, the society raised funds to support its Bible translation work, a project which translates the Bible into local languages.

Sermon
Preaching the sermon, a former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, the Most Rev. Robert Aboagye-Mensah, urged the inductees to work hard so they could complete their tenure with their heads raised high.

“Anytime you are given a position, you should remember that someone has been there before and that you too will leave. Do your work so well that when it is time for you to exit, you can exit without problems,” he said.

The BSG
The BSG is a non-denominational Christian organisation registered under the Trustees (Incorporation) Act, 1962 (Act 106).

It is an affiliate of the United Bible Societies (UBS), a global fellowship of national Bible societies.

With a mission to make God’s word available and affordable, including encouraging its use to transform lives, the BSG has translated the Bible into eight Ghanaian languages in order to reach every home in the country.
