Baabianiha, Komfuorkrom not part of Japekrom - Drobo Traditional Council

The Drobo Traditional Council in the Brong Ahafo Region has reacted to a Daily Graphic story published in the Tuesday, August 15, 2017 edition in which the Japekrom Traditional Council claimed that Baabianiha and Komfuorkrom were part of the Mpuasu-Japekrom stool lands.

The story was published under the headline: Japekrom and Drobo Traditional Councils disagree over mining rights - a report of a press conference held by the Japekrom Traditional Council and addressed by the Atipimhene of the area, Nana Dr Adjei Henne Aframfo I.

The Krontihene of the Drobo Traditional Area, Nana Djan Bediako, who was accompanied to the office of the Graphic Communications Group Limited in Sunyani by other chiefs from the area to react to the story, said the assertion by the Japekrom Traditional Council was untrue.

He said “the two towns, Baabianiha and Komfuorkrom, do not fall within the jurisdiction of the Mpuasu-Japekrom Traditional Area, but within the Drobo Traditional Area.”

He said the Omanhene of Japekrom “does not have the right to claim ownership of the two towns which were part of the 44 towns and villages in the Drobo State.”

Similarly, in a rejoinder signed by the Odikro, Nana Yeboah Asuamah, the Queenmother, Nana Ama Pomaa, and Krontihene Nana Francis Ankomah - all of Komfuorkrom - had denied that Baabianiha and Komfuorkrom are part of the Mpuasu-Japekrom Traditional Area.

“The history of our ancestors until now testifies that we have never and will never be part or belong to the Mpuasu-Japekrom Traditional Area,” the statement said.
