The absence of a public place of convenience for the population of more than 7,000 has led to open defecation in the area.

To be financed by Ho For Life, a group of philanthropists who grew up in Ho and have the passion to support the development of the municipality, the facility is expected to be ready in five months

Sod-cutting

At the sod-cutting ceremony, the Chairman of the group, Mr Eddie Akortey, said it was their widow's mite to help the community develop.

He called on other natives of the Ho municipality to return to help develop their communities.

Importance of project

The Assembly Woman for the Toviadzi Electoral Area, Madam Happy Sheba Aloryito, said the people in the community had a place of convenience but preferred to defecate in the open because the existing facility was very old.

She thanked the group for taking such a huge burden off the shoulders of the community and promised to provide the needed support for the successful completion of the project.

The Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs Fafa Adinyira, who expressed her appreciation to the group, indicated that Ho was one of the fastest growing municipalities in the country and called on other concerned citizens to support its development.

Replicate electrification module

A member of the group, Mr Kwame Sowu Jnr, called on the  government to replicate the module of self-help electrification for other infrastructural needs of the nation.

He urged it to move away from taking up the entire investment in social amenities such as water provision, places of convenience and roads.

“There are communities that can finance or support the construction of certain projects but because there is no such policy in place, they will not even take the initiative in the first place but wait for the government,” he said.

He was optimistic that with such an initiative, the country would be developed in no time.
