Sepp Blatter enjoying strong support from CAF

Africa FA capos to stand firm behind Blatter

African FA bosses have been urged by the chairman of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), Leodegar Tenga, to stand by their decision to support incumbent FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, when he seeks re-election at the forthcoming FIFA General Assembly scheduled for May 28-29 in Zurich, Switzerland.

The CECAFA chief, in a press statement last Monday, reminded CAF member associations of the pledge they made at last June’s FIFA General Assembly in Brazil to support Mr Batter’s re-election bid.

Mr Tenga stated that African football had been one of the principal beneficiaries of the development initiatives launched by Mr Blatter since he became FIFA President in 1998, noting that he was also instrumental in bringing the World Cup to South Africa in 2010.

The statement pointed out Mr Blatter’s “unparalleled dedication and commitment” to advancing football in developing countries and the pursuit of African interests.

“I trust that CECAFA members and the entire African FA’s will stand by their word in support of President Blatter’s candidature”, he stressed.

Mr Tenga is also seeking re-election to the CAF Executive at the organisation’s General Election on April 7-8 in Cairo.
