Use ICT to transform lives of children
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Mr Kofi Attor, has entreated participants at a computer training workshop to positively use information communication technology to help transform the lives of children.

The workshop, held at Nkwantakese in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region, was attended by 27 participants, made up of managers of Community Information Centres (CIC) drawn from nine districts of cocoa growing areas in six regions.
A lawyer and former Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Mr Attor, called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Department of Social Welfare to be interested in the work of the CIC managers and accord them the necessary support.
He said children should be encouraged to use their time profitably and make optimum use of computers for their studies and also called on the participants to closely work with municipal and district assemblies (MDAs) and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to support the interventions provided by GIFECT in achieving greater results.
He advised them to use available opportunities to upgrade themselves academically and make meaningful impact on the lives of people in their communities.
The acting National Programmes Manager of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Kenneth Mamudu, who represented the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry, said the Ministry and the National Programme for the Elimination of worst forms of Child Labour in Cocoa (NPECLC) were championing the fight against the worst forms of child labour in the cocoa producing sector of the country.
He assured that government was committed to the elimination of the worst forms of child labour as shown in the development and implementation of the National Plan of Action (NPA), which gives guidelines in the elimination of child labour.
He, however, entreated the participants to help teach and train children who were not in school to develop interest in going to school.
