University of Ghana to upgrade regional learning centres
The University of Ghana (UG) is to upgrade all its regional learning centres for its distance education programme across the country into fully-fledged campuses.

The move is to enable prospective students to enrol as regular students under its distance learning programme and also enjoy the services and facilities available to students on the main campus.
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university, Professor Owusu Oduro, announced this in a speech read on his behalf by the Pro-VC of the university in charge of Academics and Students Affairs, Prof. Kwame Offei, at the matriculation ceremony for 98 distance education students from the three regions of the North held at the Tamale Learning Centre last Saturday.
Number of students admitted
Out of a total of 98 students admitted, 20 of them are at the Wa Campus, 29 enrolled at the Bolgatanga Campus while the remaining 49 are at the Tamale Campus.
Prof. Oduro said a total of 2,016 distance education students had enrolled on various programmes at the university's regional learning centres across the country.
He disclosed that the university had reintroduced admissions for its mature candidates seeking to pursue undergraduate courses through the distance learning mode and called on interested applicants to register since registration was still ongoing.
Advice to students
The VC urged the students to always strive for excellence, particularly in their studies.
" As distance learners, you are required to be extra disciplined in your field of study. There will be many distractions. However, you should develop strategies for managing your time to enable you to balance the demands of time of study, leisure and work," he told the students.
Prof. Oduro further urged them to regularly visit the university's website to read the various handouts that were available there to help them improve upon their knowledge.
He also urged the students to abide by the rules and regulations of the school by making integrity their hallmark.
