The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Haruna Yakubu, who announced this at the 22nd matriculation ceremony at the Nyankpala campus of UDS, said the upgrading of the programme formed part of efforts to provide good health care for the people of the region and the country as a whole.

A total of 6,334 out 18,961 applicants have been admitted to the university to pursue undergraduate programmes in Agriculture, Renewable Natural Resources and Agribusiness and Communication Sciences at the various campuses of the university in the three regions in the northern part of the country.

Touching on the Ebola disease, he said the university would screen and adequately monitor students to prevent the occurrence of the deadly disease on the university campuses and urged students, parents and guardians not to be scared of the epidemic.

Advice

Professor Yakubu also advised the fresh men and women to disassociate themselves from occultism and other social vices, since it could hinder their education.

He said Internet access on the various campuses of the university had improved and therefore urged students to use the Internet for purely academic exercise and not for cybercrime and other immoral activities.

Commendation

The Dean in Charge of the Nyankpala Campus of UDS, Professor Samuel K. Oppong, said the construction of an ultra-modern well-furnished library block, the Spanish Laboratory and an ultra-modern three-unit lecture hall would assist students to undertake various research programmes and enhance teaching and learning on campus.

He congratulated the newly admitted students and urged them to set a road map for professional career development.
