TMA builds six basic schools

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) is building six classroom blocks with modern facilities at a cost of GH¢1.7 million each to transform the face of education in the Tema Metropolitan area.

Known as the Industrial City Basic Schools, the buildings are strategically located in various communities in the metropolis and each building has 22 rooms comprising classrooms, modern computer laboratories, e-libraries, recreational facilities including basketball and volleyball pitches, Community Health Improvement Service (CHIPS) compounds to cater for the health needs of teachers and pupils, as well as eating places, among others.

 

 Project Coordinator

According to Mr Vincent Myles Abadoo, the Project Coordinator of Ventures UNO, contractors for the project,three of the buildings were 80 per cent complete and expected to be ready for use by close of the first quarter of 2016.

He said they would soon take delivery of materials for fittings to complete the project.

In an interview, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Isaac Ashia Odamtten disclosed that the project was solely being financed by the assembly in fulfilment of the assembly’s vision to establish modern educational facilities in the metropolis to replace old structures.

 Development

On the newly inaugurated assembly, Mr Odamtten expressed optimism that the new members would inject new ideas into the system to accelerate the pace of development in Tema.

He noted that Tema was ready for major transformation in all aspects of development and called on the new assembly members to get more involved in development issues for the attainment of this objective.
