Supervise children to concentrate on studies — Dep. Education minister

The Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Basic Education, Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum, has advised parents and guardians to liaise with teachers and properly supervise their children to ensure that they concentrate on their studies rather than spend their time watching television.

He said that would enable them to qualify to gain admission to senior high schools of their choice and have the opportunity to benefit from the free senior high school (SHS) initiative.

Dr Osei-Adutwum announced this at separate durbars at Nkowi, Konkoma, Brodekwano, Mim, Asisriwa and Kuntanase as part of his tour of his constituency over the weekend.

The tour was aimed at thanking the constituents for electing him into Parliament and also educating them on some government policies which have been rolled up.

Assurance

The deputy minister assured the people that the government would do everything possible to ensure that poverty did not deprive any child from pursuing education to any level; hence, the introduction of the free SHS.

He urged stakeholders to work hard to support the development of education in their areas and the country as a whole.

Dr Osei-Adutwum lamented students’ crave to watch various television programmes, especially soap operas, in the evenings instead of studying.

He reminded parents not to leave the education of their children solely to the teachers but rather get involved by paying regular visits to their schools to ascertain the state of their children’s education and also discuss how their children were faring and find out any other challenges confronting them.

Campaign promises

The Bosomtwe Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Aikins Addai-Poku, assured the people that the Nana Akufo Addo-led government would fulfil all its campaign promises and urged them to continue working hard to support his team to achieve his promises.

He stated that the NPP government would not discriminate in the distribution of development projects.

Mr Addai-Poku urged all NPP members to remain united and support the government as “it puts in place the right measures to put the economy on sound footing.”

The Kyidomhene of Kuntanase and overlord of Mim, Nana Kwame Acheampong, appealed to the government to help improve roads in the area so that they could transport cocoa and other farm products to the markets in the urban areas.

He pledged the people’s support to the government but indicated their desire for a fair share of projects and other incentives for farmers and communities.
