Students urged to protect environment
Students and pupils in the Kpone Traditional Area have been urged to do everything possible to secure and protect the Volta River, one of the nation’s major sources of drinking water, especially for those in the Accra and Tema metropolises.

Mr Baffour Akwasi Oppong, the National Chairman of the Ghana National Scholarship Beneficiaries Association (GNASBA), who made the appeal, said since water was life, it was crucial to help stop any activity that would pollute its source – from garbage disposal to indiscriminate defecating which could run into the river.
He was addressing 20 selected first and second cycle students after a three-hour general clean-up exercise and presentation of 100 litter bins and footballs donated by Fan Milk Limited, as part of GNASBA's 20th anniversary celebration at the E.P. Church at Kpone in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region.
Mr Oppong reminded the youth in the region of their responsibility to help protect the land and its natural resources.
He said the association had made tremendous achievements over the last 20 years in its tree growing campaigns which had yielded thousands of trees in various schools and communities, adding “this deserves commendation.”
Receiving the litter bins and footballs, Madam Irene Ayenor, the Municipal Director of Education, congratulated GNASBA on its hard work, which had benefited the schools and communities in the municipality.
She also commended Fan Milk Limited for its commitment and support to the national school health and agricultural programmes.
She further advised the schools to make use of the package wisely and profitably.
