Radford introduces fashion journalism
The Radford University College (RUC) has held its maiden fashion journalism training programme for students studying fashion and design in the university.

The initiative was aimed at giving the students a wider perspective to have other sources of income apart from doing fashion and design.
“Today is to introduce the fashion students to avenues of fashion other than drawing the designing, the patterns and the making.
“We don’t have fashion journalists here so...if we can give those doing the fashion degree the knowledge and skills, then it could become a new source of income in Ghana,” the Head of the Fashion Department of RUC, Ms Yvonne Ntiamoah, said at the opening of the training programme.
According to her, some of the students studying fashion and designing were interested in fashion journalism but they had no access to the training that would equip them with such knowledge and skills.
She said the university authorities, therefore, thought it prudent to bring down a journalist from The Guardian newspaper in the United Kingdom to take the students through the training.
Ms Ntiamoah noted that once the students acquired the fashion journalism skills, they would be able to write and project issues on fashion better.
Through that, she said, they (students) could also write for the internet to sell the fashion industry, adding “they need to acquire the skills quickly so that they are ready for those jobs”.
Ms Ntiamoah said although the fashion industry generated billions globally, Ghana was yet to tap into the industry properly.
“We have our seamstresses and tailors but we don’t regard them. If we can give proper degree training to our designers and raise them to the international level, Ghana can be on the same skills with the developed world because we have the creativity but we just don’t know how to make money from it,” she said.
The Board Chairman of the RUC, Nana Dwomoh Sarpong, said the Radford University College had always wanted to set the pace in giving entrepreneurial skills.
