Nana Safrado Kwasi Amankwa, Odikro of Yaw Forikrom-Tainso, explained that the poor farmers could not afford enough food for the pupils who travel at a distance to attend school, and during the day resort to feed on palm kernel for sustenance.

He disclosed this  when Madam Agnes Kusi, Sunyani West District Chief Executive,  made a familiarization visit to some communities.

Other communities visited were, Abisu, Kwame Krakrom and Adoe.

Nana Amankwaa appealed to the Assembly to include the community in the school feeding programme.

He pointed out that the nearest health facility is about five miles away, and said this was  affecting pregnant women in accessing improved health care, while the community has been neglected  in the provision of social amenities and infrastructure.

Nana Amankwa said some of their challenges are the lack of electricity, potable water and a market.

Madam Kusi assured the people that efforts would be made to improve the situation,  and urged parents to take the education of their children seriously.

She appealed to the people to assist teachers posted to the community to enhance teaching and learning to improve the standard of education.

At Kwame Krakrom, Nana Amadu Ayuba,  the Odikro,  appealed to the NCCE to educate the youth to refrain from insulting leaders on the radio, which is not healthy for national development.

He urged politicians to focus on development in their areas,  rather than inducing people with money to vote for them during elections.

Teachers at Abisu appealed for decent accommodation, furniture and other logistics to ensure effective teaching and learning.

Nana Yaw Amankwa, Krontihene of Abisu appealed to  government to assist farmers with inputs to increase productivity.

At Adoe, Nana Kofi Nyankabi, Odikro,  said their challenges include electricity, potable water and deplorable roads.

Madam Kusi, during the tour,  urged parents to refrain from forcing girls into early marriage.

She stressed the need to educate the girls, to improve their living standards and guaranteed socio- economic development.

Madam Kusi stressed the importance of communal labour which should be periodically undertaken for environmental cleanliness.
