Plan Ghana has provided them with a three-classroom block, with a playing ground, equipment and other facilities, including a water reservoir and a  place of convenience.

The facility, which cost GHc129,000, was supported by a Japanese philanthropist, Mr Baba Yasuo, who also donated educational materials to the schoolchildren.

In an address, the Country Director of Plan Ghana, Mr Prem Shukla, thanked Mr Yasuo for the assistance and said through "this generous donation, 56 pre-school children will, on a yearly basis, have access to an enabling and child friendly academic environment to study".

He said Mr Yasuo had set a good example for the whole world and "we sincerely hope that helping the disadvantaged will become the common undertaking of all the different sectors of society from now on".

Mr Shukla said he hoped that the learning materials would provide a serene, comfortable, conducive and child-friendly environment.

He appealed to the management of the school to use the facility judiciously, so that it could last for future generations to also benefit from it.

For his part, Mr Yasuo said the support was his contribution towards the education of Ghanaian children, particularly those in rural settings.

He said he was optimistic that the facility would go a long way to open the doors of education to the children of Oditrease.

The Upper Manya Krobo District Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, on behalf of the government, thanked Plan Ghana and Mr Yasuo for the facility.

He said the government would continue to appreciate such collaborations and gave an assurance that the facility would be put to maximum use.

The Head Teacher of the school, Mr Joseph Narh Tettey, appealed for a junior high school for the community to save the children from walking long distances.

Community

Oditrease is a remote farming community in the Upper Manya  Krobo District.

The absence of teachers’ quarters and a junior high school poses a major threat to the development of education in the community.

Many teachers refuse posting to the place and the few ones who accept posting there stay outside the community.
